Sunlight is the main and major source of vitamin D. Sunlight helps to the synthesis of vitamin D. Due to extensive use of SPFs our body do not absorb sufficient amount of sunlight. Exposure of 5-30 minutes of naked face, legs and arms absorbs sufficient amount of sunlight. It should be done daily or atleast 3 thrice a week. Also in dark skin people greater amounts of the pigment melanin in the epidermal layer of the skin result in darker skin and reduce the skin’s ability to produce vitamin D from sunlight 

Food

Fishes, meat, milk, egg, soya, carrot, almonds, cashew, broccoli, cod liver oil, banana, sunflower oil, lentils , pulses and green leafy vegetables are good sources of vitamin D. Many fruits like guava and banana if eaten in presence of sunlight, they works excellent. Our body absorbs calcium at its best rate.

Supplements

In severe vitamin D deficiency conditions supplements can be taken. But they should be prescribed by doctors. When you feel severe fatigue and you get frequent fractures then consult your doctor immediately and get a vitamin D deficiency detection test.
