  • Weakening of immune system. Vitamin D deficiency leads to decrease in immunity level. Body become more prone to diseases.
  • Tiredness and weakness– Body feels very weak and tired all the time.
  • Cancer– Few cancers are also caused by deficiency of vitamin D such as cancer of prostate, colon and blood cancer (leukemia)
  • Multiple sclerosis– multiple sclerosis causes many different symptoms, including vision loss, pain, fatigue and impaired coordination.
  • Sometimes mood changes or mood swings and depression is also a vitamin D deficiency symptoms.

What are the sources of vitamin D?


Sunlight is the main and major source of vitamin D. Sunlight helps to the synthesis of vitamin D. Due to extensive use of SPFs our body do not absorb sufficient amount of sunlight. Exposure of 5-30 minutes of naked face, legs and arms absorbs sufficient amount of sunlight. It should be done daily or atleast 3 thrice a week. Also in dark skin people greater amounts of the pigment melanin in the epidermal layer of the skin result in darker skin and reduce the skin’s ability to produce vitamin D from sunlight 


Fishes, meat, milk, egg, soya, carrot, almonds, cashew, broccoli, cod liver oil, banana, sunflower oil, lentils , pulses and green leafy vegetables are good sources of vitamin D. Many fruits like guava and banana if eaten in presence of sunlight, they works excellent. Our body absorbs calcium at its best rate.
